This instruction manual will guide you through the process of verifying a domain with Mailgun. By following these steps, you will be able to configure your domain for sending emails using Mailgun’s reliable email delivery service, ensuring that your emails are delivered to your recipients’ inboxes.
Requirements:
- A Mailgun account
- Access to your domain’s DNS settings
Steps:
- Log in to your Mailgun account.
- Click on “Domains” in the left-hand sidebar.
- Click on the “Add New Domain” button.
- Enter your domain name (e.g., example.com) in the “Domain Name” field, making sure not to include “www” or any subdomain. Click on “Add Domain” to proceed.
- Mailgun will now provide you with the DNS records that you need to add to your domain’s DNS settings. There are three types of records you will need to add:
- TXT records for domain verification and email authentication (SPF and DKIM)
- CNAME record for tracking opens, clicks, and unsubscribes (optional)
- Log in to your domain registrar or DNS provider’s website, and locate the DNS management or settings section.
- Add the required DNS records provided by Mailgun to your domain’s DNS settings:
- Add the two TXT records for domain verification and email authentication. The first TXT record will have a name like “@”, “example.com”, or your domain name, depending on your DNS provider. The second TXT record will have a name like “mailo._domainkey” or “mailo._domainkey.example.com”. For each record, copy the values provided by Mailgun in the “Value” field.
- (Optional) If you want to enable tracking, add the CNAME record provided by Mailgun. The name will be something like “email.example.com” or “email”. Copy the value provided by Mailgun in the “Value” or “Points to” field.
- Save your changes in your domain’s DNS settings.
- It may take some time for the DNS changes to propagate, typically anywhere from a few minutes to 48 hours. Be patient and periodically check the status in your Mailgun account.
- Once the DNS changes have propagated, return to your Mailgun account and click on “Domains” in the left-hand sidebar.
- Click on your domain name to view its details.
- Click on the “Check DNS Records Now” button to have Mailgun verify the DNS records. If the records are correctly configured and propagated, you will see green checkmarks next to the corresponding records.
- If any records are not correctly configured, Mailgun will show an error message. Review the DNS records in your domain’s DNS settings and make any necessary adjustments. Retry the verification process by clicking the “Check DNS Records Now” button again after making changes.
By following this instruction manual, you have successfully completed the domain verification process with Mailgun. Your domain is now configured for sending emails using Mailgun’s reliable email delivery service. Remember to monitor your domain’s email sending reputation and make any necessary adjustments to maintain a high deliverability rate.
