Repurposing and Syndicating Your Blog Posts

Feb 25, 2020 | Marketing

The process of repurposing blog content may be confusing. Your target audience, on various platforms, can easily recognize repurposed and syndicated content – that applies to your business too. To drive more traffic to your business website, you should publish your content across more platforms. To get more value from your blog posts and safeguard your SEO, you might consider the following simple steps.

medium blog posts

Repurpose Your Blog Posts on Medium

Publication of content on Medium is easy and fast. The social media platform offers an effective way of repurposing blog content to help users reach thousands of new readers. The only thing you need to do is to make a free account. After signing in, click on the profile icon or image and select “Stories”.

To repurpose content you have already posted on your blog, click on the “Import Story Option” and enter the URL pointing to your blog post to repurpose. The social media platform will import the content – including the images and the formatting like bolded texts, subheadings and links. If Medium fails to do that, you can edit the posts before you publish them.

To protect your SEO, use “canonical tag”. Canonical tags appear in code lines and serve the purpose of marking republished posts and duplicated content. They will therefore identify the content on your blogs as original and preserve your SEO. When using the Medium platform you can automatically add the canonical tag to your account.

If there is a need to link back to your website, include links on your blog. The platform will generate blurbs at the end of your stories stating the place where the content appeared originally. Medium is user-friendly and more intuitive.

Repurpose Your Blog Posts on LinkedIn

You can repurpose your blog posts on the LinkedIn platform too and reach more readers. But unlike Medium, the process of repurposing blog posts on LinkedIn is not as straightforward. After logging into your account, you will have to click on the “Home” tab and then head to “News Feed”. There, you will see the option of creating a LinkedIn post. Do not share an update. Instead, click on “Write an Article” – that will open a publishing tool in another tab.

Unlike what you expect when repurposing your blog posts on Medium, you will have to copy and paste everything in LinkedIn publishing tool. After that, format it appropriately. LinkedIn does not add canonical tags or another way of safeguarding your content.

To increase the chances of your content outranking the repurposed content, avoid repurposing it immediately. The search engines will take roughly 24 hours to index the blog posts. Wait for several days before you republish your content on the platform. Remember to provide a few backlinks to the blog in the LinkedIn article. Mention where the article appeared originally and provide the URL.

Syndicate Your Blog Posts

Syndication refers to having your blog content republished on other websites. Websites that syndicate blog content receive higher volume of traffic and manage to publish many articles in a day. Some of the sites that syndicate blog posts include Thrive Global, Inc, Slate and HuffPost.

To syndicate your content, you have to start by identifying the best sites and then start the submission process. On Thrive Global, you will have to make a profile and then submit you blog posts through the dedicated portal. Remember that sites that syndicate content are always on the hunt for great content.

Contribute Regularly on Other Blogs

Guest blogging is a different type of syndication. It involves writing original content for other blogs. Even though it might take much of your important time, guest blogging will provide you with access to a larger audience. To identify the blogs to write for, look for links like “Become a Contributor,” “Write for Us,” “Writer’s Guidelines,” “Guest Blogging,” or similar phrases at the bottom of a site or on the contact page. However, for guest blogging to be effective, you should go for sites that allow backlinks and republication of content on personal blogs.

Republish Guest Posts

If allowed to republish guest posts on your business or personal blog, you should take advantage of the opportunity. Such opportunities will help you reach more people and save more time. Content republishing involves adding the guest post to your site just as you would add a new post. And because you want to drive more traffic, a canonical tag might not be important. When republishing content, remember to include the “Originally Appeared On” phrase and the link to the page.

To increase the audience reach and visibility, you just need to repurpose your content on social media platforms like LinkedIn and Medium; syndicate it on the popular websites; and guest post on some other blogs. That way, you will observe better results.
